The Swimming Hole As with all of Mary Singleton's work, the composition of this idyllic scene is elegantly balanced. Three small farmsteads surround a pond fed by a meandering stream. It's high summer here: the sheep in the meadow, the cows and hens are too (corn isn't tasseled yet). It is subtle and brilliantly shaded in all the greens of deep summer, with the counterpoint of red barns and white farmhouses.
