Farm Pond The technique of painting tone-on-tone (en grisaille) is
admirably executed in this atmospheric painting, of a crystal clear winter's
night with freshly fallen snow, under a full moon, with a weathered barn and a
comfortingly lit farmhouse in the background, as children frolic on the black
glassy surface of new ice on the farm's pond. A small flock of curious sheep
watch: sleds in a snow bank await future adventures: Mr. Good Sense has a small
warming fire on the bank of the iced pond, and the moon shines her ethereal glow
over this strangely beautiful white world.
