Friday Night Downtown When Mary Singleton was a child during the Great Depression, living in Janesville, Wisconsin, the only night of the week when the town stores were open was Friday. Few people had spare change in those days, but wandering around window-shopping and socializing was a priceless treat. The harvest moon and glittering stars, superbly executed, illuminate the scene and convey the excitement that Mary must have felt as she experienced this in her youth.
